For the majority of new applicants it is easiest and least expensive to apply using one of the following methods:
*Online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals;
*Smartphone - just search the app store for "Looking local";
*DigiTV - the Community Channel accessed by pressing the red button;
WII / Xbox 360 / PS3 game consoles - www.lookinglocal.gov.uk/hertsdirect.
If parents cannot access the internet at home, through their local library, or any other public internet access point, then they can also apply over the phone to the CSC at 0300 123 4048.
Automated Free School Meal Renewals:
The County Council's Customer Service Centre (CSC) will begin checking the continued eligibility of applicants for free school meals and those receiving the full remission of music tuition fees.
*automatically renew the applications of those pupils still eligible;
*contact any applicants who no longer appear to be eligible;
*check the new schools for those eligible pupils transferring from first, primary and middle school to the next phase;
*check the eligibility of those receiving the full remission of music tuition fees.
