Here at Essendon, we work hard to bring the wider world inside the classroom. With our theme days, Carnival Week and learning experiences. We are also at the beginning of our journey of building international links across Europe and Africa. The principal has worked in partnerships with many other countries on different Erasmus+ European and international projects, in other schools, where she has been a leader. Essendon is at the early stages of developing an international outlook for our curriculum and vision.
Our history Museum reflects the history of our pupils, the history of Britain and the diversity of pupils in our school, including black Britons in Roman times, the history of Travellers and Gypsies during the wars and immigration and migration.
Over the next year, we aim to develop black history month to end with a Carnival celebration, have international-themed assemblies, twin with a church in Ghana and a school in Europe. We intend to video and speak first hand about a different culture, as it is far more powerful to meet people.
We want to encourage our pupils to be global citizens’. Pupils have applied to be Eco-Warriors to engage them in global activities to help the planet.
We want children to learn so much about other countries and global themes that when pupils leave Essendon, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a positive contribution in the world, and with the understanding of why this so important.
