Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum Drivers

We know that our children will enter a diverse and challenging world of work where they will need to demonstrate a unique set of life skills and be prepared for a lifelong learning journey. Our curriculum is designed to help our pupils journey through each transition of their education.

Our starting point is the National Curriculum, and our school’s Christian ethos and values. We have designed and adapted our curriculum using our three main drivers, to meet the needs of the pupils in our school. We want the children to see awe and wonder in each area of our curriculum and teaching, by LOOKING IN, LOOKING OUT and LOOKING UP.

Our three core curriculum drivers are:

Looking in:

To enable all pupils and staff to value themselves and their achievements, enabling excellent wellbeing for all.

  • An effective RE curriculum which answers the 7 SIAMS questions.
  • A curriculum that meets their needs and challenges for all pupils.
  • Teaching which inspires and brings the curriculum to life (See ‘Awe and Wonder in Our Curriculum’ document.)

Looking Out:

  • To ensure enrichment for all pupils.
  • To enhance the curriculum through our Christian values, Essendon Pledge, trips and visits.
  • To ensure all children develop the skills and habits of lifelong learners.

Looking Up:

  • For children to know they are a child of God.
  • To embed an ethos for all children to embrace diversity, express themselves clearly and have a positive impact on society.
