At Essendon C of E Primary School, we want every child to develop confidence, curiosity and a deep understanding of mathematics. Using the White Rose Maths mastery approach, we build strong foundations through fluency, reasoning and problem solving so that all pupils can understand, apply and enjoy maths in real life contexts. (Intent)
We follow the White Rose Maths small step curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. Lessons use the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach, clear modelling and opportunities to reason and problem solve. Teachers check understanding throughout lessons and provide support or challenge as needed, ensuring all pupils move forward with secure understanding. (Implementation)
Our pupils become fluent, confident mathematicians who can explain their thinking and apply skills independently. Regular assessment ensures pupils “know more and remember more,” and by the end of Key Stage 2 they are well-prepared for secondary maths and everyday problem solving. (Impact)
